Consider The Source

Sci-fi fusion trio CONSIDER THE SOURCE began in the underbelly of NYC performing improvisational heavy sets soaked in Indian and Middle Eastern styles. Once the band realized they had something truly original they decided to take it on the road leading to 15 years of touring the U.S. as well as Israel, Germany, Turkey and a trip to India. Their studio catalog has evolved into a wide range of progressive rock, classical, jazz and Eastern European music mixed with many other styles from around the world. The band’s sound is always evolving and has led them to constantly chase something new and exciting.

CONSIDER THE SOURCE is living a purpose, a life together, having fun and creating art. It’s a strange thing to bring in a term like ‘Post-World Music’, but perhaps it is the best way to describe what is happening here. CONSIDER THE SOURCE is not a world music band playing eastern European or Middle Eastern music, they are students of music and culture respecting the vast tradition and taking it into the 21st Century and beyond. This cultural fusion might also be a good descriptor, but in the end these terms fall short in describing the power and creativity at play here.

While CONSIDER THE SOURCE has been honing in on their unique sound for over a decade, it is with their 2024 release, The Stare, that their sonic vision is fully realized. Produced by David Prater (Dream Theater, Firehouse), the 5-song album reveals more of the heavy metal influence the band has always had while also including the improvisational and cultural elements they have become synonymous with. This newest collection of material certainly showcases their cutting edge instruments and technical virtuosity but the focus here is on the songs, chock full of catchy riffs and melodies ranging from delicate and heartfelt to full on headbanger’s ball.

The band has performed at festivals and events including: Electric Forest, Peach Fest, Northlands, Gathering of the Vibes, Mountain Jam, Resonance, Summercamp, Shakori Hills, Progtoberfest, and ProgDay in 2012.

THE WORD

"Welcome to a new age in music. If you want a truly unbelievable, face-melting, head-banging musical experience, Consider the Source is for you.. jaw-dropping live performance that no other band can touch. "
- HEADSPACE MAGAZINE

"It's no easy task crafting unique instrumental prog in the 21st century but a few brave intrepid and talented musicians have taken on the tasks. The Aristocrats, Animals As Leaders, Scale The Summit, Russian Circles and many have taken this road and successfully crafted their own signature sounds. Add CONSIDER THE SOURCE to this list of amazingly talented musicians who sound no like other. Somehow the band manages to simultaneously create unique atmospheric backdrops while it blends together three common rock instruments in a multitude of clever idiosyncratic ways."
- SILLY PUPPY, PROGARCHIVES

"They created monstrous sounds that they themselves could barely control and ate the crowd alive."
- UPSTATE LIVE

"...completely instrumental, fusing elements of jazz, funk, progressive rock, psychedelic, metal, Middle Eastern, and Indian styles into a heady musical stew with a jam-band attitude and occasional outbursts of colorful sonic experimentation. The balance between these disparate styles works superbly...often recalling the work of Eastern European bands like Korai Öröm, Djabe, and Masfél, and there’s never a shortage of fresh ideas..."
- PETER THELEN, EXPOSE

"The music is amazing, eclectic and beyond belief at times. I'm telling you, don't bypass this one!...Eclectic is definitely the word for this, and so is unique and amazing. As crazy as things get sometimes, it always keeps your interest as you want to hear what happens next. The effects are excellent, the musicianship is out of this world. "
